5 Day Music Workshop

13-15 April and 20-21 May

St John’s School, Roma

Creative Fusions in Roma is a highly participatory, five-day music-making program for practicing musicians aged 10 to 100 years with all levels of musical experience and playing virtually any instrument.

Led by Dr Anthony Garcia and five highly skilled professional Teaching Artists, Creative Fusions in Roma is an intergenerational, intercultural workshop process that is designed to foster an ethos of self-expression and experimentation.

Participants will immerse themselves in five days of hands-on music-making – three days in April and two days in May – where they will learn how to improvise in groups, and how to create new sounds and songs.

Teachers have an additional professional development opportunity at the April workshop to work closely with the Teaching Artists to enhance their skills in improvisation and composition as it applies in their own classrooms.

Workshop Participants will learn about other cultures and styles as they participate in an inclusive process that ultimately culminates in a free community concert that will take place in the Roma Cultural Centre on Friday, 16 June.

Featuring the Workshops Participants and Teaching Artists performing together on stage as they showcase original compositions developed throughout the five-day learning journey, this free community concert will also feature a free public screening of a not-to-be-missed concert event.
