Sounds Across Oceans acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which our events stand on, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples of Meanjin, and recognise their continuing connection to the land and waterways.
Immerse yourself in a powerful expression of cultural harmony as JADE Ensemble premieres their ground-breaking work, 響和 Kyo-Wa, Harmonic Resonance. The intimate concert set in the Powerhouse’s Underground Theatre will feature the combined artistry of Indigenous didgeridoo artist and musician David Williams, Japanese koto master Takako Haggarty, Nepalese tabla virtuoso Dheeraj Shrestha and guitarist/composer Anthony Garcia.
Through an immersive creative residency supported by Creative Australia the artists have improvised, experimented, composed and explored new transcendent sound possibilities blending ancient and contemporary musical traditions and processes. Kyo-Wa represents how the iterative process of musical communication and conversation can harmonise to generate new cultural frequencies and representations.
