Sounds Across Oceans acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which our events stand on, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples of Meanjin, and recognise their continuing connection to the land and waterways.
Bring in good luck for Lunar New Year by creating a moon-shaped lantern with Jayanto Tan at the Museum of Brisbane.
As a child, Jayanto would sit and watch his beautiful mother delicately fold papers into Yuan Bao Lanterns for his Taoism father. These lanterns imitate the gold ingot currency of Imperial China and announced good luck. In Ritual Looking For The Enlightenment, Jayanto recreates these lanterns to express personal experiences of ‘otherness’.
This workshop is suitable for both children and adults.
