Creative Residency (6 – 8 Feb)

BrisAsia LIVE, Brisbane’s premier intercultural creative residency, explores dynamic perspectives on interdisciplinary art-making, intercultural collaboration and cultural knowledge sharing. This year’s residency, titled The Shape of Us, explores themes of synergy and transcendence.

The residency will explore the mediums of live improvised music, movement and visual art. The creative collective will include renowned Indian Classical Mohiniattam Dancer Bindu Rajendren, versatile Violinist and artist lead Chi Lui Flora Wong, Vietnamese-Australian harpist and visual artist Lake Kelly, talented Henna artist Sarala Surisetty, brilliant percussionist Tsoof Baras and breath-taking Chinese folk and classical soprano Zi Wang.

There will also be an opportunity for young emerging artists to join the collective though the BrisAsia Live Creative Fellowship. The fellowship, promoted through an ‘expression of interest to participate’ will offer selected young artists mentorship and skill development in interdisciplinary collaboration, improvisation, creative experimentation and performance.

Open Rehearsal and Public Q&A (8 Feb)

BrisAsia LIVE’s Open Rehearsal offers audiences an intimate glimpse into the artistic process. Observe musicians, dancers and visual artist collaborate and rehearse as they prepare for the premier performance of The Shape of Us.

Live Performance (9 Feb)

BrisAsia LIVE, Brisbane’s premier intercultural creative residency, explores dynamic perspectives on interdisciplinary art-making, creative expression and cultural knowledge sharing.

This year’s live performance is a creative interpretation of the theme The Shape of Us – an intention to transcend barriers, work in synergy and find a common ‘shape’ to expression that binds and connects all.

The Shape of Us features renowned Indian Classical Mohiniattam dancer Bindu Rajendren, versatile violinist and artist leadChi Lui Flora Wong, Vietnamese-Australian harpist and artist Lake Kelly, talented Henna artist Sarala Surisetty, brilliant percussionist Tsoof Baras and breath-taking Chinese folk and classical soprano Zi Wang. The artist collective will also be supported by a team of local emerging talent, thereby enhancing the depth and diversity of creative expression.

The live performance is a culmination of a 3-day artist immersive residency at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The performance is therefore a unique offering; a result of artistic immersion, deep expression, and synergistic collaboration.
