Sounds Across Oceans acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which our events stand on, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples of Meanjin, and recognise their continuing connection to the land and waterways.
This exhibition, open 8am-8pm weekdays and 8am-2pm weekends, explores the subtle structures that shape Asian experiences of movement, memory, and space. Through photography, installation, and painting, the artists reveal overlooked architectures that frame daily life and create layered spaces of belonging and cultural continuity.
The Two Fridas by Lois Kim and Hannah Seong, explore architectures of Asian memory and connection. Kim’s beaded curtain honours inherited symbols and domestic thresholds, while Seong’s painting reinterprets The Two Fridas to consider cultural continuity, adaptation, diasporic duality, and friendship.
